VISIT TO SOCCCD:
CCA President, Carolyn Inmon, visited with Saddleback College and Irvine Valley College faculty, administrators, and trustees on January 4, 2006. Lunch was provided through a Director’s Grant arranged for by Bill Hewitt, District Director on the CCA Board. Inmon was the featured speaker and outlined the tremendous growth in community college students nationwide and the decline in full-time instructors. She discussed the solution of getting involved in politics and the national, state and local level. President Lewis Long led a discussion of contract negotiations. Other members of the CCA leadership team present included Lee Haggerty, CCA V.P. and Paula Jacobs, State Council.

ALAN’S ADVICE:
Community College Funding- The current year 05-06 has been a good one for the community colleges. The system received in excess of nine percent new money including equalization aid, and a COLA of 4.23%. Early indications from the legislative analyst peg the COLA for 06-07 at over 5%. While the news is good, there is still concern that Proposition 98 will not provide full funding for the colleges. Stay tuned for more information next week.
