Lewis Long has taught in the English Department at Irvine Valley College for seventeen years, fourteen as a member of the full-time faculty. As a specialist in Nineteenth Century British Literature, he particularly enjoys teaching the British Literature and Introduction to Literature courses, as well as developmental and upper division writing courses. He is also serving as co-chair of the IVC English department.
Lewis has served as president of the Faculty Association, and is now the past president, and chief negotiator during the current negotiations to establish a new faculty contract. At various times, he has also served as president, vice president and past president of the IVC Academic Senate, and IVC's Staff Development/Flex officer.
He received the 2004 WHO (We Honor Ours) Award for the local chapter from the CCA. This recognition is given to a faculty member who has demonstrated dedicated service to the district's faculty.
When he's not teaching, co-chairing the English department, or negotiating, Lewis enjoys horses, and competes in team roping. He is currently training two young horses to rope as his experienced horse recovers from an injury. He also spends what little time he has left over on reading, woodworking, computers and wine, and is a terrible but enthusiastic cook.
